Marin Ballet is committed to community service and the introduction of dance to a broad cross-section of students who might not otherwise gain exposure to classical ballet and other dance forms. Our two-pronged program, Financial Assistance and Outreach Assistance, together help us reach our goal of designating 10% of annual tuition income toward scholarship awards that assist approximately 15% of Marin Ballet students.
procedures and guidelines
Students must be Marin County or neighboring county residents and must submit an Application for Financial Assistance.
- Financial Assistance Awards must be applied for annually at the beginning of the Fall school year. Classes begin the first week in September, but some classes are full by mid August. Applications may be accepted at other times of the year with the understanding that awards will be based on funding and class availability at the time of application.
- A completed Application for Financial Assistance form (including a copy of the most recent Federal Income Tax Return), a completed Registration form, and the $50.00 annual Registration Fee must be submitted for review to be considered for a Financial Assistance Award. Financial Assistance Awards are for tuition only and do not apply to the registration fee. These awards are determined according to a budget and policies set forth by the Financial Assistance Awards Committee. Award amounts are determined based on an applicant's annual income and range from 10% to 90%.
- Once enrolled, the student's attendance, tardiness, preparedness, focus, enthusiasm, and prompt payment of tuition are tracked on a quarterly basis. Problems in any of these areas may result in a rescinding of the award if parental, or other support, is not forthcoming to remedy the situation.

procedures and guidelines
Students must be Marin County or neighboring county residents and be recommended for an Outreach Assistance Award by an agency or school partnering with Marin Ballet’s Outreach Assistance Program.
- Outreach Assistance Awards must be applied for annually at the beginning of the Fall school year. Classes begin the first week in September, but some classes are full by mid August. Applications may be accepted at other times of the year with the understanding that awards will be based on funding and class availability at the time of application.
- A representative from a partnering educational or family services agency must initiate the award request. The agency is responsible for reviewing and determining the financial need of the applicant.
- Once the agency determines eligibility and recommends the student to Marin Ballet, the individual applicant must submit a Marin Ballet registration form and a brief explanation as to why s/he is interested in dance and has requested an Outreach Assistance Award.
- Marin Ballet will determine whether or not an award can be granted. Awards are for 100% tuition for the four quarters of the regular school year. Outreach Assistance Awards are only available for students placed in Movement Exploration, Ballet Preparatory, Level 1, and Level 2. These students are generally ages 3-8 years.
- Once enrolled, the student's attendance, tardiness, preparedness, focus and enthusiasm is tracked on a quarterly basis. Problems in any of these areas may result in a rescinding of the award if parental, agency, or other support is not forthcoming to remedy the situation.
- Marin Ballet will provide a written year-end evaluation of the student to the referring agency, which, again, is responsible for initiating the application process for the following year.
- D’Lynne’s Dancewear generously underwrites the cost of one level-appropriate required uniform and one pair of dance slippers per Outreach Assistance Award student, per year. Marin Ballet will issue a voucher to the student that can be presented to D'Lynne's Dancewear in exchange for the uniform and ballet slippers.
- After an Outreach Assistance Award student finishes Level 2, he/she may apply directly to Marin Ballet for a Financial Assistance Award. At this point, the award request is no longer processed through the partnering agency. But a supportive relationship should continue between Marin Ballet and the agency to assist with mentoring, communication, and additional means of support that may be available to the student.
