Do I have to audition to be a student at
Marin Ballet?
Students do not have to audition.
- In the Pre-Ballet Division (ages 3-6), students are
welcome to join a class at any time of the year, space allowing.
- In Level 1 of the Primary Division (ages 7-8),
students can join at any time, space allowing and in consultation
with the teacher.
- In Levels 2 through 4 of the Primary Division (ages 9-10)
and in the Intermediatate and Advanced Divisions (ages 11-18), students must
have previous training and will be evaluated by Marin
Ballet faculty and placed in the appropriate level.
At what level/age do students begin
performing in Marin Ballet’s Nutcracker?
Level 2 (age 8).
What kind of time commitment is involved
with training at Marin Ballet?
The time commitment starts at 45 minutes
per week for students in Movement Exploration (age 3) and
increases to 11-15 hours per week for high school students.
- Pre-Ballet Division (ages 3-6) – one day per week
- Level 1 (age 7) – one day per week
- Levels 2 & 3 (ages 8-9) – two days per week
- Level 4 & 5 (ages 10-11) – three days per week
- Levels 6 (age 12) – four days a week
- Levels 7-9 (ages 13-18) – five days per week
At what level/age do students start working
in pointe shoes?
Usually in Level 5 at approximately 11 to 12 years of age and when the teacher feels that their strength and technique can support safe training habits.
Are there any boys at Marin Ballet?
Yes, there are boys training in all of
the divisions, and we always welcome more! We offer a specialized
boys’ training program in levels 4 through 9. Separate
boys’ conditioning and technique classes begin at
approximately 10 years of age (as the girls in the same
level begin their pre-pointe and pointe training).
Is there a Scholarship/Financial Aid program
at Marin Ballet?
Yes. Marin Ballet allots approximately 10% of its annual tuition income to support scholarship
and financial aid awards that regularly benefit 10%-15%
of the student body. The primary support of Marin Ballet’s
scholarship and financial aid program comes from our annual
fundraising event, Great
Chefs in Great Homes.
