Our home is a genuine local treasure located in the heart of San Rafael’s historic Dominican University neighborhood at 100 Elm Street, San Rafael, CA 94901. Formerly a chapel and dormitory for the St. Peter Chanel Marist Fathers Seminary, the lovely facility was purchased and renovated by Marin Ballet with a major grant from the S.H. Cowell Foundation in 1972. The building is itself an important community landmark and a source of considerable pride.
The 20,256 square-foot, year-round facility is home to:
- Six dance studios, equipped with dance-specific
floors, mirrors, barres, and pianos
- The Phyllis Thelen Theater (seats 120;
fully equipped with A/V equipment and theatrical lighting)
- Three dressing/changing rooms
- The Lori Meislin Dance Library
- Three administrative office suites
- Costume storage
- Two waiting areas
- Two garden patios with outdoor tables/seating
- A board room, full kitchen and one-bedroom
apartment
- Pilates equipment, including three
Allegro Reformers
- Large parking lot, with overflow lot
in rear
Marin Ballet is proud of the contribution that it is able to make to the community of Marin County through the use of our building. The space is used as a polling site for public elections, and is the meeting place for the Dominican Neighborhood Homeowners Association. We also offer studio space for use by other community groups, including, among others:
- Dominican University (for their BFA
program in dance)
- Marin Shakespeare Company
- Masque Unit
- Don Rubbo's Qi Gong
